General Issues
Q: What is the difference between Standard and Professional versions of TurboCAD v7?
A:

Click here to view the table of improvements in TurboCAD v7 Professional, Standard, and Designer.

Q: Where can I find the geometric tolerance or surface roughness as described in TurboCAD Professional v7?
A:

These features are available only in Custom type of installation. You need to set SDK component to be installed.
If you have installed typical configuration of TurboCAD already, you can just add SDK component:

1. Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs

2. Select TurboCAD Professional v7 and press Add/Remove button.

3. Choose Modify option in InstallShield Wizard.

4. Expand SDK components.

5. Click on red cross mark by Compiled Samples and choose "This feature will be installed on local hard drive" in the appeared menu.

6. Complete the installation.

7. Run TurboCAD.

You will see two new buttons above the workspace and additional SDK menu.

Installation

Q: I get the error message: "You do not have sufficient privileges..." I am logged in as the administrator!
A:

Probably, you use non-English system. It is a registered installation problem that arises only on localized Windows versions.

The workaround is:

1. Explore TurboCAD CD contents.

2. Open BIN folder.

3. Run TurboCAD v7.Msi (or TurboCAD Professional v7.Msi, if your TurboCAD version is Professional). It should run correct installation.

Q: I'm getting an "Error:1322 A portion of the path exceeds the length allowed by the system"
A:

The problem arises on Windows XP. It also can appear on other Windows versions where MS Windows Installer (MSI) has been updated to version 1.5 or higher.

The current workaround is to copy TurboCAD installer to hard drive and replace MSI file with new one adapted to the latest Windows Installer.

Please follow the steps:

1. Download updated MSI file appropriate for your TurboCAD version:

TurboCAD v7.msi

TurboCAD v7.1.msi

TurboCAD Professional v7.msi

Note: the problem doesn’t exist in TurboCAD Professional v7.1.

2. Copy BIN folder from TurboCAD CD to your hard drive;

3. Replace TurboCAD*.msi file with just downloaded one;

4. Run the installation by double click on the new MSI file.

Q: "Internal Error 2355" when installing TurboCAD v7.
A:

Error 2355 is an internal error of Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI). Here are some suggestions provided by Microsoft:

1. Check for Alternate Installation Locations.

If your computer contains more than one CD-ROM-compatible drive (for example, another CD-ROM drive, or a DVD-ROM drive, or a CD-RW drive), run Setup by inserting the compact disc into the secondary drive. In most cases, the problem does not occur when you run Setup using the secondary drive. Or, if your computer is connected to a network, you may be able to share the compact disc in another computer's CD-ROM drive. If you are able to share another computer's CD-ROM drive, insert the compact disc into that drive, and from your workstation, connect to the other computer and run Setup.

For example, if the other computer's name is "server" and its CD-ROM drive is shared as "cdrom", follow these steps to run Setup from your computer: On the Start menu, click Run. In the Open box, type the following path: \\server\cdrom\setup.exe Click OK.

2. Slow Down the CD-ROM Drive (Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me only).

NOTE: If your computer is running Microsoft Windows NT, you cannot perform this step.

If you slow down your computer's CD-ROM drive, you may prevent this problem from occurring. To slow down the CD-ROM drive, follow these steps:

  • Right-click My Computer.

  • On the shortcut menu, click Properties.

  • On the Performance tab, click File System.

  • On the CD-ROM tab, move the Supplemental cache size slider all the way to the left.

  • In the Optimize access pattern for list, click No read-ahead.

  • On the Troubleshooting tab, click to select all of the check boxes except the Disable all 32-bit protected mode disk drivers check box and the Disable System Restore check box (Windows Me only).

  • Click OK.

  • Select the Device Manager tab.

  • Click the plus sign (+) to the left of CDROM.

  • Select the CD-ROM drive that is listed (if more than one CD-ROM drive is listed, select the CD-ROM drive that you are using to run Setup).

  • Click Properties.

  • Click the Settings tab. If the DMA check box is already selected, click to clear it.

  • Click OK.

  • Click Close.

  • Then, click Yes to restart your computer.

3. Install the Latest Version of the Windows Installer (version 1.2):

Windows 98/ME:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?URL=/code/sample.asp?url=/msdn-files/027/001/455/msdncompositedoc.xml

Windows NT 4.0:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?URL=/code/sample.asp?url=/msdn-files/027/001/456/msdncompositedoc.xml

After you update the Windows Installer, restart your computer. Then try to run Setup again.

4. Make a "Flat" Copy of the CD Contents.

You can create a "flat" copy of the contents of a compact disc by creating a folder on your computer's hard disk and copying the entire compact disc into the folder. Then run Setup from there.

Q: EVERY time I start the machine or use Explorer I get the spontaneous TurboCAD installation and error 1706.
A:

Typically this problem arises on NTFS. TurboCAD Installer uses so called MSM modules that install system components. These modules are provided by Microsoft. Two of them are incorrect - the modules that install Atl.dll and Oleaut32.dll. They don’t verify Windows version beforehand (Windows 2000 File Protection System doesn’t allow to update system components). So they attempt to update Atl.dll and Oleaut32.dll during the TurboCAD installation and Windows 2000 associates these system files with TurboCAD Installer. That is why Windows 2000 File Protection System requests TurboCAD installation sources to check the version of Atl.dll and Oleaut32.dll before they are loaded by any application.

The problem has been resolved in TurboCAD v7.1, which uses updated modules released by Microsoft. TurboCAD v.7 to v7.1 update is available for download.

TurboCAD v7.1 Update

Q: TurboCAD v7.1 patch could not find the correct installer files.
A:

TurboCAD v7 installer files are located in BIN folder of TurboCAD CD.

At the prompt "Specify location of TurboCAD v7 installer files", click the "Browse" button.

Navigate to the "Bin" folder on the CD ROM drive and click OK.

The prompt should now read "D:\Bin" where D: is the drive letter of your CD ROM.

If you still get the error message, please make sure you have downloaded the patch appropriate for your TurboCAD version (the patches are different for Standard, Designer, and Professional versions).

Also please check your current version number in Help|About... Maybe your original version is 7.1 already.

Startup

Q: I can't run TurboCAD v7. Splash screen flashes and then nothing.
A:

Most likely the problem is related to ATL.DLL located in your system. Either it is incorrect or not registered. Try to register it manually:

- Go to Start menu, Run...

- Execute the command:

regsvr32 atl.dll

You should get the message:

DllRegister Server in Atl.dll succeeded.

Q: I cannot run TurboCAD v7 being logged in as a user. I get an error 1706.
A:

The problem is caused by NTFS security policy - a user doesn't have access permissions to the administrator's TEMP folder where TurboCAD v7.0 stores a subsidiary file required for TurboCAD startup. The problem has been resolved in TurboCAD v7.1.

TurboCAD v.7 to v7.1 update is available for download.

Q: Purchased TurboCAD Professional v7 fails to run. It says it has expired.
A:

Probably, you used trial version formerly. The 15 day trial of TurboCAD and the purchased version of TurboCAD WILL NOT WORK on the same computer.

You need to uninstall both versions, REBOOT your system, and then  install your purchased copy of TurboCAD v7 Pro.

Program Crashes

Q: I get a stack fault in module IMSICTRL.DLL while working with TurboCAD.
A:

It looks like you use Logitech i-Feel mouse. TurboCAD crashes when "feeling" mouse cursor moves through the Inspector Bar.

There are two ways to workaround the problem:

- Turn off the tactile feedback as a property of the mouse.

- Hide Inspector Bar with menu item Workspace | Inspector Bar.

NOTE: This compatibility problem has been fixed in TurboCAD v8.

Q: TurboCAD v7 freezes after a few minutes of working. The previous TurboCAD version doesn’t have such problem on the same machine.
A:

TurboCAD v7 uses new technologies for interacting with your hardware, especially with video card as it uses your video card acceleration. We met this problem, when video card driver was incorrect. Typically the problem can be resolved by updating the driver. Try to check your video card manufacturer Web site for the latest driver.

Printout

Q: I get incorrect (or incomplete) printout of my drawing.
A:

Possible variants:

A. Vertical dashed lines are printed as continuous lines.

B. Dotted hidden lines are printed as a hairline.

C. I can print only a portion of my drawing.

Try to adjust "Spool data format" settings of your printer:

- Go to Start|Settings|Printers

- Right click on the printer and choose Properties

- Open "Details" page, click "Spool settings..." button

- Set Spool data format = RAW

If the problem remains, change "Spool print jobs so program finishes printing faster" option to "Print directly to the printer".

Also please check your printer manufacturer's Web site for an updated driver.

Audio Visual Training

Q: When I try and run the Audio/visual program, I get the question "Please choose measurement System, when I click on English and Start, nothing happens.
A:

It means that Audio Visual Training cannot open chosen PDFfile. The most probable reasons are:

1. TurboCAD CD is not inserted into CD drive.

Audio Visual Training installs just a small set of files required for its initialization from CD. So please insert TurboCAD CD into the drive and run Audio Visual Training once again.

2. Adobe Acrobat is not installed on your system.

It's necessary to have Adobe Acrobat v 4.0 or higher installed to open PDF files. You can find Adobe Acrobat Reader v4.05 on TurboCAD CD:

·         Insert TurboCAD CD

·         Choose "Browse CD" in the autorun screen

·         Open the folder "AdobeAcrobatReader"

·         Run ar405eng.exe from there.

Alternatively you can download free version 5 from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html

Q: I cannot run SCM files from Audio Visual Training.
A:

You need to have Screen Cam Player installed in order to play SCM files. To install it, please do the following:

1. insert TurboCAD CD,

2. choose Brows CD,

3. open "Audio Visual Training" folder,

4. run SCPSetup.exe from there.
